“To be a naturalist is to be joyful, inquisitive, and at home in the world. To be home is to treat every life form as a family member.” – Marina Richie
PGNC Next Executive Meeting
From September to June executive meetings are scheduled for the second Wednesday of the month. All members are welcome to attend the meetings. If you wish to attend, send an email to the Club at princegeorgenaturalistsclub@gmail.com to obtain meeting details.
Report: PGNC Swan & Eagle Count, 9 a.m., Sunday February 22.
Report by Angelina Joiner: Four brave naturalists ventured out in the blowing snow to see what they could see. Two of them were students from TWS at UNBC and two representatives of PGNC (myself included). The weather didn’t cooperate with us and neither did a lot else. We weren’t able to stop along the highway because of the poor visibility. We made it into the 100 Rd bridge, but the 200 Rd was not plowed at all this winter. We went up to the Kerry Lake bridge over the Crooked River and it was completely plowed. No snowshoes required. Anyway, we only saw 5 swans including one immature and 2 adult bald eagles, but what made the trip very worth it for us were the Northern Hawk Owl I spotted and the very early Pied-billed Grebe. Although the weather was not even close to ideal, we made the most of it and much joy was had by all. I only took one picture today. But if you look really hard, there are two swans in the back [at the edge of the water line].

PGNC Wingspan Game Night, Thursday, March 19, 6:45 p.m. to 9 p.m., Jack Bryant Room, Studio 2880
Love birds? Love board games? Here’s a bird board game to love! Join the Prince George Naturalists and learn to play Wingspan. Space is limited. You must pre-register here.

PGNC Annual General Meeting, Thursday, March 26, 6 p.m., Prince George Public Library, downtown branch
Mark your calendars! Our AGM will be held on March 26 at 6 pm at PG Public Library – Bob Harkins Branch (downtown). Dr. Ken Otter of UNBC will be presenting on “The Origins of Bird Conservation: Creation of the Migratory Bird Act“. Get your membership in-person at the meeting (If you haven’t already) to be eligible to vote.
We NEED your help! If you are passionate about nature and would like to see this Club continue to run events and do important work in the community, please consider joining the board of directors. No experience is necessary to volunteer, but it is, of course, an asset. The board functions best with a variety of backgrounds and points of view. At the very least, the amount of time that you would need to commit is two hours per month to attend the executive meeting. The rest is up to you. You control what else you volunteer to help with. Additionally, we are specifically looking for someone who can fill the Secretary role. That involves creating minutes and an agenda for each meeting. Guidance and training will be provided. This is a great way to earn valuable board experience, too!
