“To be a naturalist is to be joyful, inquisitive, and at home in the world. To be home is to treat every life form as a family member”: Marina Richie.

PGNC Annual General Meeting, Thursday March 20, 7 p.m., at Studio 2880

Mark your calendars! Our AGM will be held on March 20 at 7 p.m. at Studio 2880 in the Jack Bryant room (please enter from the parking lot side and not the gift shop building) Dr. Darwyn Coxson will make a presentation on lichens and mosses in old forests such as the Ancient Forest. Get your membership in-person at the meeting (If you haven’t already) to be eligible to vote.

We NEED your help! If you are passionate about nature and would like to see this Club continue to run events and do important work in the community, please consider joining the board of directors. No experience is necessary to volunteer, but it is, of course, an asset. The board functions best with a variety of backgrounds and points of view. At the very least, the most amount of time that you would need to commit is two hours a month to attend the executive meeting. The rest is up to you. You control what else you volunteer to help with. Additionally, we are specifically looking for someone who can fill the Secretary role. That involves creating minutes and an agenda for each meeting. Guidance and training will be provided. This is a great way to earn valuable board experience too!

BC Bee Atlas Webinar, Thursday March 27, 7 p.m. on Zoom

The Native Bee Society of BC (NBSBC) is running a BC-Wide Bee Atlas Project, to map the diversity, distribution, and floral partners of BC’s more than 500 different native bee species. This program is modeled after the highly successful Oregon Bee Atlas, and relies on community scientist volunteers trained through the Master Melittologist Program

NBSBC will be presenting a webinar on March 27th at 7 PM to introduce the BC Bee Atlas, including the need for a Bee Atlas, how training through the Master Melittologist Program works and the importance of understanding bee populations and their floral hosts in order to protect Canada’s bees and their unique ecosystems.
